  • Persons with Disability Holds Congress

  • Pandan, Antique, August 6, 2008 - The Persons with Disability in Pandan, Antique gathered together last July 17, 2008 at the Alexander Libberman Sports Complex to hold a Congress with a theme: "Kapag may Access, may Success." The Honorable Mayor Plaridel "John" Sanchez, VI graced the occasion with Sangguniang Bayan Members Marissa Montero and Patria Candari.

    Mayor Sanchez in his inspirational message lauded the projects and accomplishments of the Association of Disabled Persons Pandan Chapter headed by Mr. William Angor with support from the Municipal Social Welfare Services Development Office. Their projects include bag making and other decors made out of recycled and indigenous materials. The association was also considered as the most active and multi-awarded disabled organization in the province.

    "Be an inspiration to everyone that despite of your physical condition you have contributed to the well being of your family and community," Mayor Sanchez told the audience.

    Also during the Congress, the Local Government Unit of Pandan distributed wheelchairs, insurance and hogs as a surprise livelihood support to families of active and deserving members. Pandan is indeed proud to be a friend of Persons with Disability. (Pandan.gov.ph)

  • Pandan's PLDT-ARC bags National Title

  • Pandan, Antique, August 6, 2008 - Pandan's PLDT-ARC (Patria, Luhod Bayang, Duyong, Tingib Agrarian Reform Community) was adjudged as the Most Progressive Agrarian Reform Community for 2008 during the recognition program of the Department of Agrarian Reform last June 16, 2008 in Diliman, Quezon City. Mr. Ronald Sanchez, the Municipal Agriculturist of Pandan, represented Mayor Plaridel "John" Sanchez, VI to receive the award which was handed by no less than the Secretary of Department of Agrarian Reform, the Honorable Nasser Pangandaman.

    PLDT-ARC was a beneficiary of infrastructure projects from DAR-ADB-ARCP with counterpart from the Local Government Unit of Pandan. Among the infrastructures completed were the potable water system, communal irrigation system, farm to market roads, bridge, solar and mechanical dryers.

    The active presence of people's organizations and cooperatives with the intervention of various governmental and non-governmental agencies in the community was instrumental in winning the prestigious award. Trainings and livelihood projects were extended such as rice production of inbred and hybrid rice with integrated pest management, livestock dispersal, kabir and native chicken production, off-season vegetable production, peanut production and handicraft development.

    Mayor Sanchez recently granted P 77,000.00 to the vegetable production group involve in off-season vegetable production through Patria Multi-purpose Cooperative. (Pandan.gov.ph)
